1. How you say something often counts more than what you say. Cultivate a pleasing voice and say less than you think.
2. Make promises sparingly and keep them faithfully, no matter what the cost.
3. Never let an opportunity pass to say a kind or encouraging word to or about somebody. Praise good work, regardless of who did it.
4. Be interested in others: their pursuits, their work, their homes and their families. Let everyone you meet see that you regard him or her as a person of importance.
5. Be cheerful. Don’t burden or depress those around you by dwelling on your aches, pains and small disappointments. Remember, everyone is carrying some kind of burden.
6. Keep an open mind. Discuss, don’t argue. It’s a mark of a superior mind to disagree without being disagreeable.
7. Discourage gossip. It’s a waste of valuable time and can be destructive and hurtful. Refuse to talk about the vices of others.
8. Consider the feelings of others. Wit and humour at the expense of another is never worth the pain that may be inflicted.
9. Put people at ease. Encourage acquaintances to talk about him or her self. Listen with attention and don’t fidget or appear rushed.
10. Wear a pleasant face. While it may not be possible or appropriate to smile all the time, look directly at people and make contact with your eyes. Relax your facial muscles and cultivate an open manner.
